MERA Red Apple Forest Improvement Project 2022
The Union County Commissioners accepted the bid by ReedCo Inc. at the County Commission meeting held on January 5, 2022 for forest thinning and mastication on approximately 300 acres of Mt. Emily Recreation Area (MERA). The project will primarily take place during the winter months of 2022 and 2023 to utilize frozen and snow covered conditions that will assist in the protection of resources.
As of March 1, 2022, ReedCo, Inc. has completed Phase 1 of the project, which was the treatment of approximately 45 acres in the northern most part of the project area. Once snow has receded, cleanup work will be completed. The majority of the remaining 260 acres will be treated next winter season.
